European Space Weather Week (ESWW) is the main annual event in the European Space Weather and Space Climate calendar. It is organised annually within the European Region in collaboration with prominent members of the European space weather and space climate community. It began as a forum for the European Space Weather community and has since grown into an international event with global attendance.
This year’s theme is Space Weather in a Connected World: from Risk to Readiness”. Space weather was first added to Ireland’s National Risk Assessment in 2023, and its most recent edition explicitly identifies space weather and its potential impact on global connectivity as a national risk, highlighting possible disruption to electricity, transport, and satellite infrastructure.
With ESWW taking place in Ireland in 2027, this theme provides an opportunity to explore how we understand and assess these risks and the cascading impacts on an increasingly interconnected society. The conference will showcase the latest scientific advances across the community and consider how we can translate improved space weather science and forecasting into greater preparedness.
